The scene that is occurring right now is that Mark and Beau are so close in reaching the top of the mountain. There is snow and a heavy rain, Mark is really cold and numb. The clothes he has on aren't even close to enough. to page 193 as it states, " The wind blew right through my clothes, even tho I was wearing all of them now...". This scene is important because Mark is so close to accomplishing what he always have wanted to do, which is climb a mountain before his cancer takes over and his last day with life comes. Mark's reaction is that he is being more determined than ever. He keeps on climbing up that mountain. In page 193 mark states that he keeps on going and that he wants to reach the top. He says that he was really weak and that he was barely lifting his feet to take another step but he had this feeling to keep on going. I think that by the time he reaches the mountain something bad will happen.Another conflict there is in the story at this moment is that they are trying to get Mark off the bus, since the bus driver noticed he sneaked in. As the bus driver states, “Did you really think I wouldn’t notice? I know how many seats I got and I know how many tickets I took. ” This is a problem since if Mark gets off that bus he isn’t going to reach his destination before he dies, sO time is running out for him. This problem is affecting Mark for the most part and a little to the bus driver since someone didn’t pay to get in the bus. mark wasn't doing anything because he wasn't feeling good and the pain he had after the beating did not help at all. He got off the bus and what he did is that he felt like crying but the anger he had made him hold them in. in page 110 it shows, " Tears burned in my eyes, but my anger was strong enough to hold them there." This conflict is an external conflict because it's situational. The conflict in the story is that Mark is being chased with his dog Beau, by some teenagers from the street at night. The problem started as how Mark was coming out of the restaurant and instead of going threw the way where there was light he went threw the dark way. Stated in page 39 where it states, " I heard footsteps behind me... and they were following me in the dark". In the same page it states, " The direction I'd chosen to walk was dark." After that Mark is beaten up harshly and was left with twenty dollars out of the hundred he had. He is left almost unconscious and with a lot of pain threw all his body. As stated in page 45, " I lay on the sidewalk coughing, swallowing blood, and feeling all different hurts in my body." Mark's anger is now washed away and is full with frightfulness and is shaken up. The conflict is external since it involves Mark and the teenagers who hurt Mark.
The main characters in the novel "The Honest Truth" by Dan Gemeinhart is Mark and his dog Beau. They are the important characters because they are the ones escaping there home, Mark wants to go climb a tall mountain before his time of death comes. Mark is a sensible, caring for his dog and is sad for leaving his family behind. "Their faces floated threw my mind... I touched the cold glass with my finger, looking off into the distance." (p. 7) This shows how much he is going to miss his family, the part where he touches the glass shows how he is sad and doesn't want to leave them. He is excited to climb a mountain which is a dream he wants to accomplish and scared for what is coming his way while heading to the mountain. In page 16 it states, "I screamed and jumped, my heart hammering... I wanted to run, but there was no where to run." This shows how Mark is scared while walking towards his way to the bus station. Mark goes from being sad to scared to a little happy throughout the first chapters.
A conflict that is occuring is that Margarets mom and dad have different religions. Margaret doesn't have a religion because if this. She is trying to decide to being Jewish or the Y. In page 60 it states, "If i could figure out which religion to be I'd know if I wanted to join the Y or Jewish community center." She is really confused and doesn't know which one to be in. Her grandmother is telling her that she is Jewish. States on page 63, "Then the conflict gets bigger when her mom thinks Margaret is too young for her to be bothering about her religion. It states on page 64, "I am not hysterical! I just think it's foolish for a girl of your age to bother herself with religion." Her mom doesn't agree and thinks it's crazy and her dad thinks that what she is doing is a mistake.
