The conflict in the story is that Mark is being chased with his dog Beau, by some teenagers from the street at night. The problem started as how Mark was coming out of the restaurant and instead of going threw the way where there was light he went threw the dark way. Stated in page 39 where it states, " I heard footsteps behind me... and they were following me in the dark". In the same page it states, " The direction I'd chosen to walk was dark." After that Mark is beaten up harshly and was left with twenty dollars out of the hundred he had. He is left almost unconscious and with a lot of pain threw all his body. As stated in page 45, " I lay on the sidewalk coughing, swallowing blood, and feeling all different hurts in my body." Mark's anger is now washed away and is full with frightfulness and is shaken up. The conflict is external since it involves Mark and the teenagers who hurt Mark.
