The main characters in the novel "The Honest Truth" by Dan Gemeinhart is Mark and his dog Beau. They are the important characters because they are the ones escaping there home, Mark wants to go climb a tall mountain before his time of death comes. Mark is a sensible, caring for his dog and is sad for leaving his family behind. "Their faces floated threw my mind... I touched the cold glass with my finger, looking off into the distance." (p. 7) This shows how much he is going to miss his family, the part where he touches the glass shows how he is sad and doesn't want to leave them. He is excited to climb a mountain which is a dream he wants to accomplish and scared for what is coming his way while heading to the mountain. In page 16 it states, "I screamed and jumped, my heart hammering... I wanted to run, but there was no where to run." This shows how Mark is scared while walking towards his way to the bus station. Mark goes from being sad to scared to a little happy throughout the first chapters.
